Sunday night was the start to the 3 day long event, where it was like I was on a blind date with 30+ others at a local bar. At first intimidating, and then quite enjoyable. I also might ad that before the event started, I went to dinner with KH, her sister, her brother and their mother at Piazza Italia. Gnocchi, I love you! Seriously, how can you go wrong with pasta, potatoes and some form of sauce? Dinner ended a little early, and I had about 20 min. to go, so I walk around Whole Foods to kill some time. Check out what I found..... Oat Milk! Now I know to some, this is no big deal, but for me, it could be a little piece of heaven.... Well, that is if there had been a chocolate one. While in London I fell in love with a drink called Oatly. It was amazing (the chocolate one anyway), and I had always hoped that some day, if lucky, it would reach the U.S. Man do the swiss know how to alternative milk.
After Whole Foods I headed across the street to the bar where the first event was being held. I was still too early, so I told the bar tender that I would go for a quick walk around the block and be back. About a minute into my block walk..... CREEPER!!!! He came out of nowhere, from behind, and started talking. He asked where I was going, I freaked, looked at a piece of paper, acting like I had directions to get somewhere, and then fled across the street as fast as I could. Which in turn prompted him to yell, " Let me give you a pointer, don't be so rude". Rude? FUCK NO! My instinct told me that if I would have went any further away from the bar, that something bad would happen, and shit, there was no way I was going to be one of those girls who later reported having a bad feeling before something bad happened and chose to ignore it. Anyways, right when I got back to the bar, they noticed I had returned quickly and asked if I wanted anything. I told them some creeper was following me, which I have to say became a lurker as well, as he had turned around and followed me walking right past the bar. So not cool knowing that I was being stalked as a piece of prey.
O.k., but besides that, I had a radical time. Each 12 finalist had a 'parent' 12er. I lucked out and got Will, the Brit. We're both graphic designers who like London and the font Gil Sans. Will got me a gift of his favorite UK band, The Futureheads, and a US comic. I liked his musical choice and would recommend everyone check them out. He even made 12 logo wrapping paper.
Monday was intense. 17 hours of mingling, interviewing and baring it up. All good and fun mind you. Will was a phenomenal host, making sure I was at each 15 minute long interview on time for 4 hours straight. Go him! I met some quality people and fell even more in love with the place. I adore the Bird's Nest, a super cool office space located on the 6th floor, with casing in twings and a stellar rock couch made out of felt and such. Unfortunately, hardly any photos were taken that day, including the Bird's Nest. I was to busy taking it all to even think about it. I did manage to take 4 photos.... 3 of the thumb tac 'Fail Harder' wall which was created by W+K12.4, and 1 of current 12er, Rob. He liked to take renegade photos of us (especially on Sunday night), so I thought it was only fair that I take one in return.
This is Rob. He's a current 12er and a smooth talker. Watch out ladies!
This thing is massive. And I was told 12.4 did it all in one night. Can you spot the only red pin?
